Solar Safe UV Band - Instructions for Use

Solar safe is a new and unique sun monitor that enables you to see at a glance your exposure to harmful UV radiation. The wristband should be coated with sunscreen in the same way that it is applied to the skin. As the level of UV absorption increases, the band changes through a range of colours and in doing so reveals or hides symbols indicating when to re-apply sunscreen and when to seek shade.

It also has the added benefit of acting as an ID band for your child. Write your contact details on the reverse of the band with the permanent pen provided so that your child carries this information with them in case he or she becomes separated from you.

SolarSafe is a single use disposable band. The adjustable band is suitable for use by children and adults and is efficient at temperatures up to 50ºC and relative humidity up to 100%.

INSTRUCTIONS FOR USE

  1. Open the pouch and remove a single wristband. Re-seal pouch immediately with remaining unused bands inside to prevent activation.
  2. Write contact details on the reverse side of the band with the indelible pen provided and allow to dry for a couple of seconds.
  3. Coat the outside of the band with the same sunscreen as user is wearing and with similar thickness.
  4. Secure band, with contact details facing against skin, to wearer’s wrist or ankle as desired.
  5. The band will gradually change colour from orange to blue when exposed to the sun and then to a light brown colour which indicates it is time to re-apply sunscreen. At this stage the wording SolarSafe will fade away.

  1. A further change to yellow/orange means it is time to seek shade as maximum exposure for that day ahs been reached. At this stage sun symbols will fade away. The SolarSafe band has reached maximum exposure and should be discarded.
  2. A partially used patch, when re-exposed to the sun, starts monitoring UV rays from the point it was taken out of the sunlight. Use only one patch a day per person, and then discard it.

WARNING

This product does not contain a sunscreen and does not protect against sunburn. Repeated exposure of unprotected skin to the sun may increase the risk of premature skin aging, skin cancer, and other harmful effects to the skin, even if no sunburn occurs. The use of SolarSafe UV monitor wristbands combined with limiting sun exposure, wearing protective clothing, and using sunscreens may reduce the risks of sun exposure. Such protective measures cannot eliminate these risks altogether.

Why do we need personal SolarSafe UV monitor wristbands?

The effective UV radiation level depends on altitude, latitude, season, air pollution, clouds, reflection (water, sand and snow reflect UV rays, increasing exposure), etc; therefore it is very difficult to know the UV radiation levels for specific location and daytime.

Sunscreens are losing their efficiency through perspiration, mechanical friction and absorption in the skin. People need to have an indication when to apply the lotion again.

EFFECTS OF SUN EXPOSURE

UV radiation causes sunburn, skin cancer and accelerates skin aging.

Children are at greater risk of suffering damage from UV exposure than adults.

TO BE USED WITH SUNSCREEN

DO NOT EXPOSE TO DIRECT SUNLIGHT BEFORE USE

PRECAUTIONS FOR CHILDREN

Encouraging children to take simple precautions will prevent both short and long term damage while allowing them to enjoy their time outside.

  • Infants under 12 months should be kept in the shade.
  • Cover up children with hats, protective clothing and sunglasses.
  • Use sunscreen of SPF 15+, using the appropriate SPF for each member of your family and their skin types.
  • Monitor how much sun they are exposed to using a UV monitor.
  • Limit the time spent in the midday sun where UV index is at its highest.

THE SOLAR UV INDEX

The UV index is a scale given to the level of UV radiation on a given day. It ranges from 0 to 20, the higher the index, the higher the potential damage to the skin and eyes and the less time it takes for this damage to occur.
